Want 2Go?

Yes, we’re looking for people to contribute to 2GoNow.

Back! Back! Back! You won’t be able to buy a latte at Caribou Coffee with what you’re likely to make from us any time soon.

Unasked questions:

Who can contribute? Since 2GoNow isn’t about travel “writing,” but about capturing and conveying travel experience using new media, you don’t have to be a writer to contribute.

  • You do need to be creative, smart and knowledgeable about the topic you’re content-ing on.
  • You need to know how to use new media any number of its many mutating, compelling, loveable and irritatingly faddish, peculiar forms.
  • You need to  be clever, resourceful and, on a good night, funny.
  • You must love travel.
  • You should hate most travel writing and travel guidebooks.

Contribute what? We’ll publish miniatures, digital vignettes, aggregations, audio clips, Flip cam-erawork, Tweets, multimedia galleries, datavisualizations, annotations, mash-ups and more. We believe in “adaptive reuse” of old-school travel content.

We plan to do leading edge work with data clouds, info-shadows and ambient lifestreams, as soon as we can figure out what the hell those things are.

Oh, and we’re trying to figure out how to aggregate advice so you can make plans based on others’ wisdom and not have to worry that some trickster has a hand in your pocket.

And why should I do this? Once we have more traffic and a clearer idea of what we’re up to, we’re going to seek advertisers, sponsors, benefactors and alchemists. Contributors will be compensated based on some measure of the value/appeal of their content, though we hope to come up with something less crass and simplistic as “page views.” Regular contributors could wind up doing better. But the point is, don’t expect to make much money off this any time soon.

What if I’m a travel writer? We may be intrested in your cast-offs, spin-offs, digests or reconsiderations. We’re betting you have or could easily create excellent stuff that didn’t “fit” into your conventional travel story. We think there are nuggets of insight, value and–who knows?–truth in what conventional travel media disregard, cut or ignore. If you agree, talk to us.

What else might be in it for me? Let’s word this carefully: 2GoNow is a project of Stoltz Digital Strategies LLC, a Maryland digital publishing corporation. If you are self-employed in the writing, editing, photography, video, media or similar trades, you may be able to write off from your taxes legitimate expenses you incur while traveling to create content for 2GoNow. This could be a marketing expense for your business or it could be an effort to make money outright. Regular contributors could get assignment letters that describe such financial arrangements. These are matters to discuss with your tax advisor and your god.

How do I get started? Chill. Check out the kind of stuff we’re doing. And think about what we should be doing. Take a look at your travel calendar ahead and places you’ve recently gone. If you have thoughts, drop a note to stoltzc[at]gmail[dot]com.

Can I go now? Yes. Go. Now.
